AC gas refilling is a full refrigerant service: the old gas is recovered, the system is held under vacuum, then refilled by weight with R134a or R1234yf and the right compressor oil. In JBR it is done at your parking with a mobile machine where access allows, otherwise at a partner workshop. Book on WhatsApp or by phone, 24/7.

What's included

  • Refrigerant type and fill weight read from the label under the bonnet
  • Old refrigerant recovered and weighed, so we know how much was actually left
  • System held under deep vacuum to boil off moisture, then watched to see if the vacuum holds
  • Compressor oil added in the type and amount specified, which differs for the electric compressors on hybrids and EVs
  • Recharged by weight with R134a or R1234yf, never a mix of the two
  • Vent temperature and high and low side pressures measured with the engine running

Signs you need it

  • Air from the vents is cool but no longer cold
  • The cabin takes much longer to cool down than it did last summer
  • The AC is cold on the move and goes warm at traffic lights
  • You hear the compressor clicking on and off every few seconds
  • It had a quick top-up and went weak again within weeks

AC gas refilling: How it works

From first message to driving away usually takes under an hour.

  1. Identify and recover

The technician reads the refrigerant label under the bonnet, connects the machine to the service ports and recovers whatever gas is left. The amount recovered tells us a lot.

  2. Vacuum and leak watch

The system is pulled into a deep vacuum to remove air and moisture, then left to stand. If the gauge creeps back, there is a leak and we stop there to find it.

  3. Recharge by weight

Oil and refrigerant go in to the exact weight on the label. Then vent temperature and pressures are checked with the engine running and the AC on full.

Good to know in JBR

A car AC system is sealed, so gas that is low has gone somewhere. Slow loss through hoses and seals over several years is normal. A system that is empty after one summer has a leak, and refilling it without finding the leak only buys a few weeks. In Dubai heat the pressures run high, so too much gas is as harmful as too little. That is why the charge is weighed, not guessed from a gauge.

Car was dead on P2 after three weeks away. Sent the tower and bay number on WhatsApp and the technician was at the car in about 25 minutes. He tested it first and showed me the printout before changing anything.

The dealership quoted me three days. These guys fitted an AGM battery in my building's basement the same evening and registered it to the car. Start-stop works again.

Honest. I was sure I needed a new battery. He jump started it, checked the alternator and told me the battery still had life in it, just drive it more. Didn't try to sell me anything.

Friday night on The Walk so it took closer to 40 minutes than 30, but they called to say so. Battery is in the boot on mine and he knew exactly where to go. Paid with Tabby.

Clear about the options. Three brands that fit my car, what each one cost and how long the warranty was, all on WhatsApp before he set off. No surprises when he arrived.

Second time I've used them, different car. Same result: on time, clean job, terminals cleaned without me asking. I've saved the number.

Security at my cluster can be difficult with outside contractors. They told me exactly what to say to the gate and it went smoothly. Battery changed in twenty minutes.

AC gas refilling: common questions

How do I know if my car uses R134a or R1234yf?

Look for the AC label under the bonnet, usually on the front panel, the underside of the bonnet or a suspension tower. It names the refrigerant and the fill weight in grams. Many newer models use R1234yf and older ones R134a. The service ports are different shapes so the two are not mixed up by accident.

What is the difference between a top-up and a full refill?

A top-up adds gas on top of whatever is in the system, so nobody knows the final amount. A full refill takes everything out, removes moisture under vacuum and puts back the exact weight the maker specifies. It also shows how much gas had been lost.

Will refilling the gas fix an AC that blows hot air?

Only if low refrigerant is the cause. Hot air can also come from a failed compressor, a blocked condenser, a dead cooling fan, a blend flap fault or an electrical problem. The pressure readings and the vacuum test point to the cause before any gas goes in.
