Car AC gas filling in JBR tops up the refrigerant when cooling has become weak. If the system holds pressure, a technician recovers the old gas, vacuums the system and recharges it by weight where the car is parked. Cars with a leak go to the partner workshop. Book by WhatsApp or call, 24/7.
What's included
- High-side and low-side pressure readings with manifold gauges, and vent temperature measured at the centre vent.
- Recovery of the remaining refrigerant, so the system is not topped up blind.
- Vacuum for a set time to remove air and moisture, then a hold test to see if the vacuum drops.
- UV dye and compressor oil added in the measured amount.
- Recharge with the correct gas, R134a or R1234yf, to the weight on the under-bonnet sticker.
- Leak tracing with a UV lamp at the condenser, hose joints, service valves and compressor seal.
Signs you need it
- Air from the vents is cool on the move but warm when you stop.
- It takes far longer than last summer to cool the cabin.
- The compressor clicks on and off every few seconds.
- One side of the dashboard blows colder than the other.
- Oily residue on an AC pipe joint or on the face of the condenser.
Car AC gas filling: How it works
From first message to driving away usually takes under an hour.
Pressure and temperature check
The technician connects gauges, reads both pressures with the AC running and measures the vent temperature. That shows if the system is low on gas or has a different fault.
Recover, vacuum, recharge
Old refrigerant is recovered and weighed. The system is put under vacuum and watched. If it holds, dye, oil and the exact weight of gas go back in.
Leak found, workshop repair
If the vacuum drops or dye shows at a joint, refilling would only last days. The car goes to the workshop for the leak repair, then is charged and returned.
Good to know in JBR
A car AC is a sealed system. It does not use up gas, so a low charge means some has leaked out, even if slowly. In JBR the usual places are the condenser, which sits behind the front bumper and takes salt air, sand and stone chips, and the rubber O-rings that harden in the heat. Newer cars use R1234yf and older ones R134a. The two must not be mixed, and the service fittings differ to prevent it.

Car was dead on P2 after three weeks away. Sent the tower and bay number on WhatsApp and the technician was at the car in about 25 minutes. He tested it first and showed me the printout before changing anything.

The dealership quoted me three days. These guys fitted an AGM battery in my building's basement the same evening and registered it to the car. Start-stop works again.

Honest. I was sure I needed a new battery. He jump started it, checked the alternator and told me the battery still had life in it, just drive it more. Didn't try to sell me anything.

Friday night on The Walk so it took closer to 40 minutes than 30, but they called to say so. Battery is in the boot on mine and he knew exactly where to go. Paid with Tabby.

Second time I've used them, different car. Same result: on time, clean job, terminals cleaned without me asking. I've saved the number.

Security at my cluster can be difficult with outside contractors. They told me exactly what to say to the gate and it went smoothly. Battery changed in twenty minutes.

Car AC gas filling: common questions
How often does a car need AC gas?
There is no fixed interval. A sealed, healthy system can go many years without a top-up. If yours needs gas every summer, there is a leak, and finding it with dye is a better use of the visit than refilling again.
Which gas does my car take, R134a or R1234yf?
It is printed on a sticker under the bonnet, along with the charge weight in grams. Older cars use R134a and many newer ones use R1234yf, but the changeover year differs by maker and market. The technician checks the sticker and the service port type before connecting.
Can the AC be regassed in a basement car park?
Yes, when the system is sound. The machine recovers the old gas into a cylinder, so nothing is released into the car park. The engine has to run for a few minutes during the pressure check, so a bay with some ventilation helps.
