Tudor is a European car battery brand that grew from the work of Luxembourg inventor Henri Tudor. The Spanish company dates from 1897 and has belonged to Exide Technologies since 1994. Its range runs from Technica to Start-Stop AGM. In Dubai it suits French, Italian and German cars as a mid-to-upper-tier European option.

About Tudor batteries

Exide's European sister brand

Henri Tudor, an engineer from Luxembourg, built one of the first practical lead-acid batteries in the 1880s, and companies carrying his name spread across Europe. The Spanish one, founded in 1897 with a factory in Zaragoza, outlasted most of the others. Exide Technologies bought it in 1994 and has kept the name alive, particularly in Spain and Portugal. Today Tudor batteries are designed and built alongside Exide's within the same group.

Because Tudor shares its engineering with Exide, the same points apply in the Gulf. The Start-Stop AGM and EFB lines are built for cars that restart at every junction, and the High-Tech line is the stronger conventional option for cars with plenty of equipment. It is not a name most Dubai drivers know, which is no reflection on the battery. It is a reasonable choice for a Peugeot, Renault or Volkswagen when the size you need is available in Tudor.

Tudor ranges we fit

  • Tudor Technica

    Calcium

Sealed conventional line for cars without start-stop, and not to be used on start-stop vehicles.

  • Tudor High-Tech

    Calcium

The stronger conventional line, for cars that need more reserve.

  • Tudor Start-Stop EFB

    EFB

For cars with basic start-stop and no energy recovery under braking.

  • Tudor Start-Stop AGM

    AGM

For larger cars and SUVs with start-stop and power-hungry equipment.

What Tudor does well

  • Exide group engineering

Tudor is designed and made within Exide Technologies, a supplier to European car makers. You get that group's start-stop experience under a different label.

  • Long European history

The name goes back to one of the people who made the lead-acid battery practical. The Spanish business has been building batteries since 1897.

  • Clear four-step range

Two conventional lines and two start-stop lines. It is easy to see which one corresponds to the battery your car was built with.

A good fit for

  • French and Italian cars
  • European cars with start-stop
  • Like-for-like EFB replacement

Worth knowing before you choose

Tudor is a small name in the UAE. Stock is limited to the more common European sizes, and if yours is not available the sensible move is the equivalent Exide or another European brand.

Car was dead on P2 after three weeks away. Sent the tower and bay number on WhatsApp and the technician was at the car in about 25 minutes. He tested it first and showed me the printout before changing anything.

The dealership quoted me three days. These guys fitted an AGM battery in my building's basement the same evening and registered it to the car. Start-stop works again.

Honest. I was sure I needed a new battery. He jump started it, checked the alternator and told me the battery still had life in it, just drive it more. Didn't try to sell me anything.

Clear about the options. Three brands that fit my car, what each one cost and how long the warranty was, all on WhatsApp before he set off. No surprises when he arrived.

Second time I've used them, different car. Same result: on time, clean job, terminals cleaned without me asking. I've saved the number.

Security at my cluster can be difficult with outside contractors. They told me exactly what to say to the gate and it went smoothly. Battery changed in twenty minutes.

Tudor batteries: common questions

Is a Tudor battery the same as an Exide?

They come from the same company, Exide Technologies, and the two ranges are organised in the same way. That does not mean every Tudor is identical to an Exide of the same size. Compare capacity and cranking current on the labels, as you would with any two batteries.

Can I fit Tudor Technica to a car with start-stop?

No. Technica is a conventional sealed battery and is not made for start-stop duty. Fitted to a start-stop car it will wear out quickly and the system may switch itself off. Those cars need Tudor Start-Stop EFB or AGM, matched to what was fitted originally.

I have never heard of Tudor. Is it a proper brand?

Yes. It is one of the older battery names in Europe and is common in Spain and Portugal. It is simply less marketed in the Gulf. If you would rather have a name you know, we carry Exide, Varta and Bosch in most of the same sizes.
