Fluid check and scan
A technician checks the fluid where the car allows it, reads stored codes and drives the car briefly. Dark, burnt-smelling fluid or metal on the dipstick changes the plan.
Workshop diagnosis
The car is collected. Line pressure, solenoid response and converter lock-up are tested, and the sump is dropped to inspect the magnet and filter. You approve the repair before it starts.
Repair, relearn, return
After the repair the unit is filled to the correct level at the correct fluid temperature, shift adaptations are reset and relearned on a road test, and the car is returned.
Good to know in JBR

Transmission repair: common questions
Will a fluid change fix a slipping transmission?
Sometimes, when the fluid is old and the slipping is mild. It will not rebuild worn clutch packs. If the fluid is black and smells burnt, fresh fluid may improve shifts for a while, but the wear is already there. The inspection tells you which case yours is.
Is CVT repair different from a normal automatic?
Yes. A CVT has no fixed gears. It uses a steel belt or chain running between two pulleys that change diameter. Typical faults are judder, a whining noise and overheating warnings. It needs its own fluid, and standard ATF can damage it. Some CVT faults are repaired at valve body level, others need the belt and pulleys replaced.
The car is stuck in one gear with a warning light. Can I drive it?
That is limp mode. The control unit has locked the transmission in one gear to protect it. You can move the car a short distance to a safe place, but do not continue your journey. Have it scanned where it is parked or recovered to the workshop.
