Exide is a battery brand that began in the United States in 1888 and is built today in Europe by Exide Technologies. It supplies car makers directly and is strong in AGM and EFB for start-stop. In Dubai it suits European cars and any driver whose short trips leave the battery undercharged.
About Exide batteries
AGM and EFB from a start-stop specialist
The Exide name goes back to the Electric Storage Battery Company, founded in Philadelphia in 1888. The brand name followed in 1900. Today the car batteries come from Exide Technologies, a European manufacturer that also owns Tudor. Exide says it brought AGM batteries to start-stop cars in 2004 and introduced EFB in 2008, and those two technologies are still what workshops associate with the brand.
Short trips are hard on batteries because the alternator never gets time to put back what the starter took out. Exide's Premium line uses carbon additives on the negative plates, which the maker calls Carbon Boost, to accept charge faster. That is useful if your driving is JBR to Media City and back. The AGM and EFB lines suit European cars with start-stop. As with every brand, Gulf heat still sets the limit on how long it lasts.

Exide batteries: common questions
Is Exide from Europe the same as Exide from India?
No. Exide Technologies in Europe and Exide Industries in India are separate companies with their own factories and ranges. Both make car batteries. The label shows the manufacturer and country, and the technician will tell you which one is on the van before you agree to anything.
My car has start-stop. Do I need Exide AGM or Exide EFB?
Replace like with like. If the car was built with AGM, fit AGM. If it was built with EFB, you can fit EFB or step up to AGM. The type is printed on the old battery's label, and we check it during the test before recommending a replacement.
I only drive a few kilometres a day. Will an Exide cope?
Short trips drain any battery faster than they recharge it. Exide Premium with Carbon Boost and the EFB line are both built to accept charge quickly, which helps. A longer drive every week or two still makes more difference than the brand does.
