About the Boyue's battery

What to expect by model year
- From roughly 2010 to 2016, start-stop arrived on many models. If yours has it, the battery will be EFB or AGM and should be replaced with the same type.
- From about 2017 onwards, a battery sensor on the negative terminal is common. On many cars the new battery has to be registered so the charging system treats it correctly.
- On cars still under manufacturer warranty, keep the invoice. A like-for-like battery of the correct specification, properly registered, is what the handbook asks for.
What applies to every Geely
Geely owns Volvo, and several of its newer SUVs share engineering with that side of the group. The result is a range packed with electronics: big screens, 360-degree cameras, powered tailgates and engine start-stop on many turbo versions. All of it leans on the 12V battery, which is why the original on a start-stop car is an EFB or AGM type. Replace it with the same technology and at least the same capacity as the label shows.
Some Geely models have been sold here with a 48V mild-hybrid system. Those cars have two electrical systems, a 48V battery that assists the engine and an ordinary 12V battery that runs everything else. Only the 12V battery is replaced at the car. Fitting is under the bonnet and normally needs no coding, but a scan tool is used to read and clear any low-voltage faults. A memory saver keeps the touchscreen profiles, clock and window settings.

How long does it take to change a Geely Boyue battery?
About 20 to 30 minutes once the technician is at the car. Add a few minutes if the battery sits in the boot or under a seat, or if the new one has to be registered to the car.
Will I lose my radio and seat settings?
No. We connect a memory saver before disconnecting the old battery, so the clock, radio presets, windows and seat memory stay as they are.
Can you fit the battery in my tower's basement parking?

Does a Geely with a 48V mild-hybrid system still have a normal 12V battery?
Yes. The 48V battery only supports the engine and energy recovery. Lights, locks, screens and the starter circuit run from a separate 12V battery, and that is the one that usually fails first. It can be replaced at your parking bay. The 48V unit is a dealer part and is not touched.
Will I lose my touchscreen settings when the battery is changed on my Geely?
Normally not. A memory saver keeps the car powered while the battery is out, so profiles, paired phones and the clock stay as they were. If the car has already gone completely flat, the clock and some preferences may need setting again, which takes a couple of minutes.
