Jaecoo arrived in the UAE recently as the off-road flavoured sister brand to Omoda, so there is not yet a long record of battery habits for these cars. The basics still apply. The petrol J7 and J8 are turbocharged, well equipped and electrically busy, and where start-stop is fitted the battery has to be an EFB or AGM type. The label on the original battery is the reference: technology, capacity, cranking amps and terminal layout.
Owners who use the all-wheel-drive versions as intended, on sand and gravel, should know what that does to a battery. Heat soak after a slow dune climb, vibration on corrugated tracks, and a fridge or compressor running with the engine off all take a toll. The plug-in hybrid versions add a high-voltage battery, which a mobile technician does not touch, but their 12V battery can still be tested and boosted like any other.
