About the Eunos Cargo's battery

What to expect by model year
- Model years up to about 2009 almost always use a standard flooded or calcium battery with no electronics to reset. Changing it is straightforward.
What applies to every Mazda
Mazda calls its start-stop system i-stop, and it is the detail that decides which battery your car takes. Cars with i-stop restart the engine many times in one trip, so they are built with an EFB battery marked with a code such as Q-85. A regular battery of the same physical size will bolt in, but the i-stop light soon starts flashing and the battery wears out early. Cars without i-stop use an ordinary calcium battery.
After a battery change on an i-stop Mazda, the car has to relearn the new battery before start-stop works again. The technician carries out that reset at the car and confirms the warning light goes out. Newer six-cylinder models with Mazda's mild-hybrid system also carry a 48V battery, which is separate and not replaced by this service. On current Mazdas the battery is under the bonnet, and a memory saver keeps the clock and audio settings.

How long does it take to change a Mazda Eunos Cargo battery?
About 20 to 30 minutes once the technician is at the car. Add a few minutes if the battery sits in the boot or under a seat, or if the new one has to be registered to the car.
Will I lose my radio and seat settings?
No. We connect a memory saver before disconnecting the old battery, so the clock, radio presets, windows and seat memory stay as they are.
Can you fit the battery in my tower's basement parking?

Why is the i-stop light flashing after a battery change on my Mazda?
The car has not yet accepted the new battery. On i-stop models the battery management has to be reset so it relearns the battery's condition. It also flashes if a non-i-stop battery has been fitted. The technician resets the system on site and checks the light goes out.
Can a normal battery be used on a Mazda with i-stop?
It is not advisable. It may start the car, but it is not built for constant restarts and deeper discharge. The i-stop function drops out and the battery ages fast in Dubai heat. Fit an EFB battery made for idle-stop cars, in the same size as the original.
