About the Kadjar's battery

What to expect by model year
- From roughly 2010 to 2016, start-stop arrived on many models. If yours has it, the battery will be EFB or AGM and should be replaced with the same type.
- From about 2017 onwards, a battery sensor on the negative terminal is common. On many cars the new battery has to be registered so the charging system treats it correctly.
- On cars still under manufacturer warranty, keep the invoice. A like-for-like battery of the correct specification, properly registered, is what the handbook asks for.
What applies to every Renault
Most Renaults on Dubai roads, the Duster, Symbol and older Fluence among them, use a conventional sealed battery under the bonnet. They are simple cars to work on and need no registration afterwards. The detail owners forget is the radio. Many older Renault head units lock when power is cut and ask for a four-digit security code. A memory saver during the change avoids that, but it is still worth finding the code card in the service book.
Newer Renaults with stop-start have a battery sensor and should get an EFB battery, or AGM if that is what came out. After any battery disconnection a Renault may also want small resets, such as the one-touch windows and the clock. The technician runs through these before leaving. Dusters used off-road should have the hold-down clamp and terminals checked too, because corrugated tracks shake them loose and a battery that moves in its tray fails early.

How long does it take to change a Renault Kadjar battery?
About 20 to 30 minutes once the technician is at the car. Add a few minutes if the battery sits in the boot or under a seat, or if the new one has to be registered to the car.
Will I lose my radio and seat settings?

My Renault radio asks for a code after the battery change. Where do I find it?

Is a jump start enough, or does my Renault need a new battery?
The test decides. If the battery was drained by lights left on and still holds charge afterwards, a jump start and a good drive are enough. If it fails the load test, or it is flat again next morning, it has reached the end of its life and should be replaced.
